Libros de artista en exposición: recomendaciones de conservación preventiva
Abstract
This article seeks to be a reference for the conservation of a type of artistic productions with which many conservators are not familiar: artist’s books. These works present a conservation challenge, accentuated in the decision-making of how to achieve its proper exhibition without compromising its material stability. For its full enjoyment and understanding, the manipulation of the book becomes necessary, causing the conservator to mediate between the deterioration that this entails and the respect for its functional value, its haptic properties, and the transmission of its message. This mediation must also occur between the users and the custodians or owners of the books, as well as between the institutions that carry out exhibitions. This investigation reflects on these aspects and seeks to propose useful recommendations for the conservator.
