Study and cataloging of Japanese swords in Spanish army museum
Abstract
Since the first contacts between Spain and Japan, one of the topics that has attracted the most attention of the country of the rising sun is everything related to the warrior nobility or samurai class, seeking in their weapons the maximum expression of this idea. When Spanish collectors realized that, in addition to the historical-anthropological value of Japanese weapons, there was an artistic value of exquisite workmanship, all eyes turned to Japan. With the beginning of diplomatic relations between Spain and Japan in the mid-19th century, several Japanese swords began to arrive in our country, often from the hands of soldiers stationed in the area. In this article we will analyze these weapons present in the Spanish army museums, we will establish cataloging guidelines and present their current state of conservation and offer guidelines for their correct preservation.
